1. The University's Role
The Lebanese American University seeks to develop responsible students with leadership skills and community awareness. LAU shall provide its students with proper counseling and guidance to meet the challenges they may face in the University community, and later in their active roles in society. LAU shall provide its students with opportunities to develop academically, physically, intellectually, socially and morally in order to meet the challenges they may face in life.
2. Students' Responsibilities
The Lebanese American University shall expect its students to assume responsibilities commensurate with the freedom given to them, shall insist that their actions neither infringe upon the rights of others nor disrupt the normal functioning of the University, shall expect its students to act under all circumstances in a manner to reflect favorably on the entire University community and shall expect its students to obey the regulations of the University and the laws of Lebanon, and to respect the generally accepted social standards of the community.
3. Student Participation
LAU shall encourage its students to establish a Student Council as a vehicle for their participation in making regulations related to student life on campus, social and recreational activities, and student publications. All such regulations shall be approved by the Student Campus Life Council and the Campus Administrative Council or the University Executive Council as appropriate.
4. Judicial Procedures
LAU shall establish and implement disciplinary procedures that guarantee fairness to students in cases of misbehavior or misconduct. It shall be the policy of LAU to entrust the disciplinary responsibility for non-academic disciplinary cases to the Student Campus Life Council. LAU shall also provide the right to appeal to ensure that due process is followed at all levels of judicial action and review.
5. Spiritual Life
Interaction between religions shall be encouraged to improve one's understanding of life, acceptance of differences and tolerance toward others. Inter-disciplinary studies featuring religion as a unifying theme for cultural studies and human development shall be promoted.
6. Social Involvement
The increased interaction between LAU and society at large aims at fulfilling the purpose of the University which is to prepare its students to be aware of the needs of the community and the environment, and to be actively involved in their development.
7. Diversity
The Lebanese American University shall strive to impart to its students the ability to deal, respect and tolerate differences in gender, race, nationality, creed, beliefs and physical condition.
