Facilities

The main gymnasium is located on the lower campus next to Irwin Hall (Administration Building) and no other university, at present, in Beirut or its suburbs, offers such a unique facility. It has four levels and is well suited to the needs of the students and the LAU community.

On the basement level, is located a state-of-the-art, heated swimming pool. It is 20mx12m and is frequently used for intercollegiate and other competitions. New showers and changing quarters have been added for everyone’s comfort. All swimming classes, academic and non-academic, are conducted here, and free times are scheduled throughout the academic year for students, faculty, and staff.

On court level, the following are available:

A wooden (parquet) floor primarily used for basketball, volleyball and tennis classes and activities. Men’s locker rooms and showers.
A multipurpose room for free play table tennis, martial arts, chess, and occasionally, aerobics and dance classes.
Equipment storage room. The basketball court is equipped with an electronic scoreboard and 24-second shot clocks. The ladies’ locker rooms and showers, a large multi-purpose activities room, the assistants’ and athletic director’s offices are all located on the main level.

Finally, two tennis courts (with lights) are located on the roof, adjacent to the Fine Arts Building.

The fitness and weight center

With to the constant increase in the number of health and fitness conscious students, the fully equipped - with some world famous brands - fitness and weight center is an ideal place to work out and establish a good exercise habit. Two qualified instructors are available round the clock to ensure that you benefit the most out of your daily workout. The fitness center is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m, and is located in the basement of the LRC21 basement.

For everyone’s overall safety and enjoyment of the facilities, a number of rules and regulations have been established. Our aim is to serve and make students’ stay at LAU a most enjoyable and memorable one. Kindly refer to these at the Athletics Office.
